Frank Lampard: Coventry City head coach signs new deal until 2029 ahead of Premier League return

Frank Lampard has signed a new contract as Coventry City head coach until 2029.

The former England and Chelsea midfielder penning fresh terms will be welcome news as the Sky Blues prepare for a return to the Premier League.

He had been linked with a number of vacant managerial roles this summer, including Crystal Palace and Fulham, but has now signed a new three-year deal with the Midlands club.

It comes after Lampard led the Sky Blues to the Championship title last season and a return to the Premier League for the first time in 25 years. Coventry won the league by 11 points over second place Ipswich.

The 48-year-old initially joined the club in November 2024, taking the team from 17th place to the play-offs before his triumph last term.

Speaking to the club's official media after signing his new contract, Lampard said: "I'm delighted to have signed a new contract, it's a real honour to represent this club.

"After the incredible work of everybody to get promoted and win the Championship, it was important to enjoy the moment, and we certainly did as a city.

"Our job then as staff, and for the players of course, is to firstly recharge but also focus on what we want to do and what we need to for next season. There's a lot of work to do on and off the pitch as a football club, so those things have been on going.

"I'm looking forward to getting back with the players, to see them all and get ready for the new season.

"I'd like to thank everyone at the football club. The fans first and foremost for how they've supported the team, myself and my staff in allowing us to get to where we've got to. The spirit and togetherness we created last year was something great to be part of and now we want to continue it.

"Thank you to Doug King as well for giving me the opportunity to come to this football club and for his support of us. We work together and we know there's a lot to do but we're going to give it everything."

Coventry executive chairman Doug King added: "I'm absolutely delighted that Frank and his team have 'signed the contract', so to speak.

"Since arriving in November 2024, our club has been on a huge upward trajectory under his leadership and it is absolutely fitting after Championship glory last season that he leads us into our first Premier League season for a generation."
