Struijk sale keeps us in line with PSR, says Leeds

Leeds say the sale of Pascal Struijk to Brighton has helped them remain compliant with the Premier Leagues Profit and Sustainability Rules.

Confirmation of the defenders transfer, worth around 18m, came on Tuesday night, the final day of the three-year accounting window for PSR.

In a lengthy statement, Leeds said Struijks transfer fee, along with the added income of a 14th-placed finish in the Premier League and a run to the FA Cup semi-final, has ensured the club stay within their PSR limits.

Leeds feel this vindicates their decision to keep the squad together last summer after winning promotion from the Championship.

Brighton sign Struijk from Leeds

Brighton have signed centre-back Pascal Struijk from Leeds in a deal worth around 18m.

He has signed a five-year deal with the Seagulls.

Leeds say the deal for Struijk, who was their longest-serving player, includes a sell-on clause.

The 26-year-old was entering the final year of his deal at Elland Road and was offered "a significantly improved contract".

However, Leeds respected his desire for a new challenge and sanctioned his move to Brighton, which they say keeps them compliant with PSR.

'Fernandes would be a great signing - Spurs just have to get it done now'

Your Site' Jamie Redknapp:

"It is great news for Tottenham fans and there will be a lot of excitement as this is something we have never really seen before - they are having a real go in the market, the previous regime would never have done this.

"There have been a couple of reasons - the two relegation fights have not been ideal for the fans and board and they've had enough. And with Arsenal winning the title, it has almost embarrassed Spurs into action, now we have to act and start buying some proper players.

"And [Sandro] Tonali and Fernandes are the sort of players the Tottenham midfield have been crying out for. They have not had that quality in there, they've had players who work really hard.

"Hopefully they can get the players in as they are going to be a force next year and right now, if you look at them, there is no reason why they can't have a right go next year. It has been a great window for them, they've moved fast, which is something we never saw before and I am a big fan of Fernandes, who was very unfortunate not to be in Portugal's squad.

"And for Tottenham, this would be a great signing - they just have to get it done now."

Fernandes imminent to Spurs - Redknapp with high praise for club

Jamie Redknapp has praised Tottenham for their imminent signing of West Ham's Mateus Fernandes.

Fernandes preference unclear during transfer talks

Latest from Your Site News' Michael Bridge and Lyall Thomas:

Tottenham have agreed a deal to sign Manchester United target Mateus Fernandes from West Ham for 85m.

United pushed hard to sign Fernandes but will only buy players at the right valuation.

They want players who really want to play for United - and his preference was not clear throughout the process.

United will continue to remain patient and buy the right targets at the right price as they believe they did last summer.

The midfielder is now preparing to undergo a medical ahead of a move that would smash Spurs' transfer record of 53m which they paid for striker Dominic Solanke.

'This is a mega statement of intent from Spurs'

Your Site News reporter Michael Bridge:

"It is quite incredible news - we knew Spurs had gone head to head in the last few weeks with Man Utd for the transfer of Fernandes from West Ham, who were insistent they wanted 85m for a player they believe is going to be one of the best midfielders in world football.

"There was original interest from Man Utd, Spurs we know have been interested in Sandro Tonali, but what we do know is that Fernandes was then interested in Spurs - so it was a straight fight between Spurs and United.

"And it looks like Spurs are now going to win the race to sign Fernandes. This is a humongous deal - Spurs' previous record transfer was Dominic Solanke for around 65m. At the end of last season, they said they were going to spend big in the next two windows and this is a mega statement of intent."

Lampard signs new Coventry deal

Frank Lampard has signed a new contract, Coventry City have announced.

Lampard, who guided the club to promotion and the Championship title last season, has signed a new deal to 2029.

Man Utd, Arsenal in two-horse race for Scott signature

Latest from Your Site News' Lyall Thomas:

Alex Scott now appears to be a two horse race between Manchester United and Arsenal

However, Bournemouth still do not want to sell him and would rather he sign a new contract.

Talks have been held about a new contract for the ex-Bristol City player, as the south-coast side hope Scott, who just missed out on the England World Cup squad, will continue under new boss Marco Rose.

Nevertheless, Scott remains in the mix of targets at the biggest clubs that want to sign a new midfielder this summer, and it remains to be seen if one of them comes in with a bid.

Summerville on Man Utd radar

Latest from Your Site News' Vik Varange and Lyall Thomas:

Crysencio Summerville is emerging as a leading left-wing target for Manchester United.

The situation around signing a new left-sided forward is a fluid one and understood to be dependent on what happens with Marcus Rashford.
