Phil Mickelson refutes allegations of inappropriate behaviour in statement released by his representatives

Six-time major champion Phil Mickelson's representatives have described allegations of inappropriate behaviour levelled at him as an "anonymously sourced drive-by shooting".

In June, Golf Digest claimed that Mickelson's membership at The Farms Golf Club in San Diego had been removed after a female employee accused him of inappropriate contact.

Your Site News has contacted the golf club for comment.

A follow-up investigation by golf publication Skratch featured further allegations about Mickelson's conduct made by Ashley Perez, the ex-wife of fellow professional Pat Perez.

In a statement to the New York Post, the golfer's representatives said that report omitted key details and claimed it was a misunderstanding for which Mickelson had apologised.

"Mr Mickelson has never been expelled from a golf club. His membership has never been revoked by a golf club. Those decisions were his alone," read the statement.

"Mr Mickelson's willingness to apologise for his conduct should not be misconstrued as an admission of every allegation made against him."

The statement went on to say the Skratch report was "a compelling, click-bait narrative over an accurate one" and an "anonymously sourced drive-by shooting".

Skratch's editor-in-chief Ben Boskovich told the New York Post the publication "stands by its reporting".
