Brighton sign defender Svoboda
Brighton have signed defender Michael Svoboda from Venezia on a four-year contract for an undisclosed fee.
It brings an end to his six-year spell with the club, in which he twice helped them to earn promotion to Serie A, including last term.
The 27-year-old is currently on international duty with Austria at the World Cup. They face Spain in the round of 32 later on Thursday, with kick-off at 8pm.
Fabian Hurzeler told the club's official website: Michael has enjoyed a fantastic season with Venezia, captaining them to the league title.
He has a number of attributes that we believe will see him adapt well to how we play, both in and out of possession.
He also adds competition to an area we are looking to strengthen and with a number of clubs pursuing him this summer, I am very happy that hes decided to come to Brighton.

'Tonali's a proper midfielder - Spurs will have a good season next year'
Your Site' Paul Merson on Spurs' summer business:
"Tonali is a very good signing, he is one of my favourite players in the Premier League, he is a proper, proper midfielder.
"Whenever I've watched Tottenham, I always think they are a bit over-run in midfield, they do not ever dominate games.
"They've got good centre halves and forwards when they are all fit, but they never dominate the midfield and the manager [Roberto De Zerbi] has come in and highlighted that and he has brought in two very good midfield players.
"I expect them to have a good season next year and I wonder if that Aston Villa performance against Tottenham at the end of last season will come back and bite them when they got well beat and could have probably relegated them - that could come back to bite them when we are looking at fourth or fifth in the league next year for Champions League positions.
"But he [De Zerbi] has bought very well at the moment."
